DEAD POOL RULES AND SCORING SYSTEM

first... the rules... yes, even the dead pool has a few rules...

1. come up with a list of 50 people of name value that you think will die...

- actors, politicians, sports figures (no WNBA players, I said name value), etc, etc...

- local politicians and TV news personalities are fine as well...

- your cousin George (unless he's George Clooney, then please, yes, let him die) or your neighbors are not...

- picks can be challenged the first seven days after being posted to verify lesser known people (see tom's 2008 list)...

2. for obvious reasons, you can't be involved in the death. If you have the urge to kill, don't pick from your own list.

- also prison terms suck, and you're on your own there...

3. a death counts when its final. if someone is declared legally dead, then revived 30 seconds later, then you get nothing...

4. deaths must take place between january 1st, 12:00:01 and december 31st, 11:59:59 of the year being played.

- time zones don't matter as long as the date and time fall within the same year the game is being played...

5. picks must be emailed to me no later than 12/31. my goal will be to post them on 1/1. obviously a few days delay is fine and normal...

- however if your picks are received late and in that time news is revealed of an illness, injury, etc, you will need to replace them.

6. i can't watch everything that happens 24 hours a day, so if one of your picks dies, email me the article to back it up...

7. your picks are your responsibility. if you pick someone who died in 2006, then you're screwed and can't change it once i post the list.

8. A new rule added for the 2011 season will be you can only reuse 50% of your previous years list, so you will need to refresh some.

scoring... simple and easy...

1. scoring is based on the age at death. just subtract the age from 100 to get your score...

- oral roberts died at 91 years old and was worth 9 points (in short, 100 - 91 = 9)...

- logically, if you pick someone over 100 years old and they die, you will lose points...

2. the pregnancy rule has been added as of 2008. it sounds a bit harsh, but we cover all bases. i mean it is a dead pool...

- if someone dies while pregnant, it is a 100 point bonus if neither survive.

- when jamie lynn spears was pregnant, if both died, that would be 184 points (100 - 16 + 100 = 184)...

- if jamie lynn spears died but the fetus survived, that would be 84 points (100 - 16 = 84)...

- if jamie lynn spears had a miscarriage, then you'd get nothing since your actual pick was jamie lynn...

3. how to decide a winner?

- the game is broken into two parts, the traditional points winner (game A) and the total number of kills (game B)...

- traditional points winner is simple. highest number of points at the end wins...

- in case of a tie, person with the lower number of deaths (thus more risk) wins...

- if still tied, then its a draw and you split and are declared co-winners...

- total number of kills winner is also pretty self explanatory. largest number of deaths at the end wins...

- in the case of a tie, the person with the most points at the end wins (would show more risk)...
