BRIDGEPORT BLUEFISH vs. NEWARK BEARS

NEWARK, NJ - Wil Quintana had four hits and five runs-batted-in to help the Newark Bears snap an eight-game losing streak with a 12-4 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish Saturday night at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The eight-game slide equaled the second longest such streak in franchise history.

Quintana got the Bears started with a two-out, three-run home run in the first inning giving Newark a 3-0 lead. He finished the night 4-4 with two home runs, his 20th and 21st of the season, a double, 5 RBI and 4 runs scored. Quintana now has hit 20 or more home runs in four consecutive seasons.

Newark's Francisco Santos contributed two hits to the Bears 13-hit attack, including a two-run home run, his 6th of the season, in the 6th inning. Jose Herrera had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI double.

Bears centerfielder Norm Hutchins starred offensively and defensively, extending his hitting streak to 17 consecutive games with a two-run triple in the 2nd inning and adding a pair of sparkling running catches on the night.

Left-hander Brent Billingsley picked up the win for Newark, allowing three runs and ten hits over seven innings. Billingsley (6-8) struck out two batters and walked one. Tim Cain (1-11) started and took the loss for Bridgeport, surrendering 8 runs and 10 hits over 4.2 innings.

Bridgeport's D.J. Boston was 3-4 on the night with three singles, a walk and 3 runs-batted-in.
