2006 ATLANTIC LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME |

Bridgeport, CT - Once the rain subsided, the stars came out to play at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Wednesday, July 12th. After a pre-game homerun derby, the Atlantic League All-Stars took the field in a North vs. South battle. Bluefish starter, T.J. Mathews, took the mound for the North Division, pitching two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit, while striking out four South batters in the 4-1 South victory. Pat Mahomes of the Long Island Ducks allowed three singles in the 3rd to load the bases, but then worked out of trouble to save the North from falling to an early deficit. The South wouldn't be quiet for long once knuckleballer, Joe Gannon, took over the pitching duties. Clyde Williams, who had won the 2006 Homerun Derby crown earlier in the evening, lead off with a monster solo homerun well over the 405 sign in centerfield. Gannon then gave up singles to Jeff Nettles and Ryan Radmanovich, making way for Denny Abreu who ripped the second homerun of the inning, bouncing off the Arena at Harbor Yard beyond the left-field fence, making it a 4-0 south lead. Bryant Nelson of the Bluefish and Tony Schrager of the Ducks both recorded hits in the bottom of the 6th for the North. Nelson scored on a sac fly from fellow Bluefish Barry Wesson to inch the North closer 4-1. Mel Stocker picked up consecutive stolen bases in the bottom of the 8th inning, stealing second and then third. Stocker has 30 stolen bases on the year, second overall in the Atlantic Lead. In the bottom of the 9th the North squad was threatening after a single and stolen base by Jose Herrera, but Mike Johnson closed out the game for the South. |
