Bridgeport, CT - The Bluefish fell to the rolling Road Warriors 14-8 in front of 3,622 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday Night. Although the Bluefish combined for 12 hits and six runs, it would still not be enough to combat the live bats of the Road Warriors. Matt Beech got the loss for the Bluefish going three innings giving up six runs on seven hits. David Housel and Sheldon Fulse both walked in the top of the second inning, Housel scored on a single by Nick Ortiz. Fulse and Ortiz then came around to score on a long double off the bat of Teuris Olivares. Olivares then scored on a Mike Huggins single and the Bluefish found themselves at an early 4-0 defecit. In the top of the third, Olivares ripped a single back up the middle that brought home Sandy Aracena and Fulse. The Road Warriors took a six run lead and Olivares picked up his third and fourth RBIs on the night. In the bottom of the third inning Deivi Cruz who had been batting .386 in the past ten games recorded a sac fly to put the Bluefish on the board. With runners at first and second, Barry Wesson doubled down the right-field line to bring home Espada. Nathans scored next on a wild pitch from Matt Scheuing to cut the Road Warrior lead in half 6-3. Ortiz came around to score in the top of the sixth on a ground rule double off the bat of Mike Huggins. Manny Mejia then hit an RBI single to put the Road Warriors up 8-3. The road Warriors weren't quite done and Jason Bryan picked up an RBI fielders choice making it a score of 9-3 headed into the bottom of the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, newly acquired centerfielder Carlos Rodriguez, ripped a massive longball well over the centerfield fence. Damian Rolls and Steve Hine were both on base, recording hits earlier in the inning. The Bluefish were now at a 9-6 defecit. The Road Warriors continued to chip away and heading into the bottom of the ninth inning the Bluefish were trailing 14-6. The 'Fish rallied for two more runs in the bottom of the ninth but the final would be 14-8. |
