Duluth, GA - David Winfree's two-run, seventh inning homerun proved to be the difference maker in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's 2-1 victory over the Gwinnett Braves Saturday. Gwinnett held the Yankees scoreless until Winfree's blast, with starting pitcher Chris Resop tossing 6 2/3 innings of four-hit ball, allowing two runs while striking out five and walking one. Yankees starting pitcher Ivan Nova managed to match Resop pitch-for-pitch, going six innings and allowing one run on eight hits. The righty struck out four and walked two en route to his third victory of the year and first since May 3. Winfree's homerun was his fifth of the year, tying him with Chad Huffman and Juan Miranda for the team lead. Winfree also leads the team in RBIs. The win also snapped a three-game losing streak for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The teams meet again Sunday at 2:05 p.m. |
