ROAD WARRIORS vs. BRIDGEPORT BLUEFISH |

Bridgeport, CT - The Bluefish started chipping away early in Monday's game against the Road Warriors, but the visitor's bats would prove to be too powerful in the 7-4 loss. After Bryant Nelson was hit by a pitch to start off the game, Deivi Cruz knocked a ground-rule double into the bullpen down the third base line. Angel Echevarria then chopped a ball to short, and Tino Sanchez singled up the middle to bring home both Nelson and Cruz. The Road Warriors retaliated in the top of the second after Mike Huggins was walked to start the inning. Jason Bryan doubled to right center, bringing Huggins around from first to score. Bryan scored soon after on a single by Sandy Aracena. Aracena came around to score later, on a Felix Martinez hit. Sheldon Fulse, who walked earlier, scored soon after on a hit by Nick Ortiz. Huggins, who started the inning, came up next and singled to first, being called safe on a questionable call that brought out Bluefish manager Dave LaPoint to contest the call. When the inning was said and done, the Bluefish were down by a margin of 5-2, making this the second time in just as many games that the Bluefish have given up five runs in a single inning. In the top of the fourth, Martinez led off once again with a base hit. He was brought in on a two-out single by Manuel Mejia. Echevarria walked to lead off the bottom of the fourth for the Bluefish. Sanchez and Bobby Darula followed with base hits though the right side, Darula picking up the RBI. Luis Figueroa and Steve Hine tried to spark the Bluefish in the bottom of the seventh with singles through the left side and the right side, respectively. Jamie Pogue came up next and hit a rocket right back to Road Warrior pitcher Kyle Goldwater. Goldwater snagged the line drive and fired it to second to catch Figueroa off the base, picking up two quick outs. The shot was enough to make way for reliever Miguel Martinez, who immediately gave up a hit to Nelson and plunked Cruz. With two outs and the bases loaded, Echevarria walked to inch the Bluefish closer with a 6-4 Road Warrior lead. The Bluefish picked up another run in the top of the ninth, but the final score would be 7-5 Road Warriors. The Bluefish are to play their next of the three game set on June 7th and 8th at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. |
