CAMDEN RIVERSHARKS vs. BRIDGEPORT BLUEFISH

Bridgeport, CT - The Bluefish greeted a sold-out crowd of 5,500 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard Friday night, hoping to extend their winning streak to five games (tying the 2006 season record). A 2-0 victory over the visiting Camden Riversharks kept the skein alive. Kevin Hodges (2-4) went 7.1 innings, giving up five hits, walking three, and striking out four for the Bluefish, who, after Friday's game, have gone 20-1/3 innings without allowing a run.

Alex Fernandez stroked the first hit for the home nine in the third frame. He moved to third on a well-executed hit and run off the bat of Bryant Nelson. Deivi Cruz then grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Fernandez for the game's first run.

The Bluefish tacked on another run in the fourth. Barry Wesson led off with a single to left field. Bluefish catcher Hector Kuilan then reached first on a swinging bunt, moving Wesson at third. A sac fly from Steve Hine gave the Bluefish a 2-0 lead—and ended the scoring.

When Pedro Swann reached base with one out in the eighth, it was the end of the day for Hodges. Scotty Layfield came in to provide the relief. Layfield, who had thrown .2 innings with two strikeouts the night before, whiffed Dwight Manness and forced Ryan Jones to fly out to center to end the inning.

Luther Hackman took the mound for the 'Fish in the 9th looking for his first save since June 4th, which was also against Camden. After allowing a lead-off single and a one-out walk, Hackman wrapped up his seventh save, striking out the last two Riversharks to the delight of a screaming crowd of Bluefish fans.

The Bluefish are scheduled to play two more against Camden at home before their North Division rivals, the Long Island Ducks, come to Bridgeport for a four game series.
