Lawrenceville, GA - With the help of three home runs from outfielder Justin Ruggiano, the Durham Bulls defeated the Gwinnett Braves 7-0 on Saturday night at Gwinnett Stadium. The Bulls improve to 17-12 while the G-Braves drop to 14-16 on the season. Following two singles and a walk by G-Braves starter Todd Redmond, Ruggiano cleared the bases with a third-inning grand slam. Durham loaded the bases a second time in the third but Redmond was able to escape without any further damage. In the fourth inning, Durham shortstop Reid Brignac belted a one-out solo home run to give the Bulls a 5-0 advantage. The next batter, Ruggiano followed suit and smacked his second homer of the game, putting Durham up 6-0. Ruggiano came to the plate again in the sixth inning and finished off the hat trick, smashing his third home run of the game. The solo home run capped the 7-0 win for Durham. Redmond, who allowed six earned runs in 3 1/3 innings was charged with his second loss of the season and is now 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA. Diory Hernandez was the lone bright spot of the night. The G-Braves shortstop finished the game 2-for-3with a stolen base. Barbaro Canizares was 0-for-4 on Saturday, ending his hitting streak at 13 games. The G-Braves will take on the Bulls in game three of the four-game set on Sunday. Gwinnett RHP Tommy Hanson (1-3, 1.65 ERA) will face Durham LHP James Houser (1-1, 5.54 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. |
