Bridgeport, CT - The Bridgeport Bluefish lost to the Road Warriors, 5-4, in front of 3,485 fans at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard Friday evening. The Bluefish jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the second when Barry Wesson smacked a lead-off single to right field. The Road Warriors' right fielder, Bernie Gonzalez, allowed the ball to trickle underneath his legs, permitting Wesson to advance to third. Bluefish third baseman Luis Figueroa laced a RBI-single to right field, scoring Wesson easily. The Road Warriors tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the first when Marcos Sanchez roped a one-out, RBI-single to right field, scoring Nick Ortiz from second. Ortiz walked to reach base, and he would later scamper to second after a Mike Huggins' single. Both Gonzalez and Derek Barrows flied to right field to end the inning, keeping the score tied at one run apiece. Ortiz gave the Road Warriors their first lead (2-1) of the game when he hit into a fielder's choice, allowing Felix Martinez to plate. Ortiz came around to score when Bluefish starter Donovan Osbourne threw a wild pitch. After Huggins popped to right field, the Road Warriors ended the fifth inning with a 3-1 lead. The Bluefish tacked on one run when Road Warriors' starting pitcher Kyle Goldwater hit Barry Wesson by the pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Tino Sanchez from third. Sanchez replaced Buzz Hannahan after a shoulder injury. The Road Warriors extended their lead to 5-2 when Martinez ripped a two out, two-run double to deep left centerfield, scoring Barrows and Sheldon Fulse. Martinez attempted to advance to third, but was called out. The Bluefish scored their third run of the game in the sixth inning when Norm Hutchins drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Jamie Pogue. In the following at-bat, Angel Espada grounded into a double play, which allowed Steve Hine to score. At the end of the inning, the Bluefish trailed by one run (5-4). Osborne went six innings, surrendering four earned runs on seven hits while striking out six, walking three, hitting one batter and throwing one wild pitch. Goldwater pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out two, walking four and hitting one Bluefish. Goldwater earned his first win of the season while Osborne suffered his first loss of the season. Echevarria, Figueroa and Sanchez led the Bluefish with two hits each. Echevarria increased his hitting streak to six games, the longest current hitting streak of the season. Echevarria has recorded five multi-hit games over his last six games. He now has six multi-hit games this season. RHP Jimmy Journell will take the hill for the Bluefish tomorrow while RHP Mike Ziegler will make his the start for the Road Warriors.
