NEW HAMPSHIRE FISHER CATS vs. NORWICH NAVIGATORS

Final ever game of the Norwich Navigators (name change for 2006)

Norwich, CT - A.J. LaBarbera homered and knocked in four runs and Brian Mazone combined with two relievers on a three-hit shutout, as the Norwich Navigators blanked the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 2-0, in the season finale at Dodd Stadium this afternoon.

LaBarbera's two-run homer in the 1st off spot-starter Bubbie Buzachero (4-5) was all the Navigators would need as Brian Mazone (11-8) turned in his fifth straight terrific outing to close out the season. Mazone tossed six shutout innings before turning the ball over to Billy Sadler for two and Oscar Montero for the 9th to finish off the team's fourth shuout in six games. Mazone picked up his team-high 11th win and Buzachero took the loss.

The Navigators won seven of their final eight games of the season to finish at .500 (71-71) for the year. Norwich concludes the 2005 campaign at .500 for the first time since the season's Opening Day, when the Navigators were 0-0. And with New Britain's 5-0 loss to Binghamton, the Navigators finish the year all alone in third place in the Eastern League's Northern Division.
