The 3DO was released in the US on October 4, 1993 with a suggested retail price of $699.99. The 3DO was conceived by Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins. Despite the huge planned launch and being named Time Magazine's “1994 Product of the Year”, the console pretty much tanked. To be honest, I have never seen a 3DO console in my life. The 3DO was actually manufactured by several different companies including Panasonic, Sanyo, and Goldstar. The Goldstar version had compatibility issues with some games, as did every Goldstar product with the media it was designed for. The 3DO was discontinued in 1996 with about 2 million consoles being sold. |
