Well, this is pretty much what started it all. Pong pretty much jump started the industry, but it wasn't until 1978 when Space Invaders was released and the doors were blown wide open. My first experience with any arcade game was at a child when we'd go to dinner at a “Ground Round” chain. Much like arcades, there aren't many of those left either... but I do remember playing Tornado Baseball, Gunfight, Sea Wolf, and others while there. To me, this was the first step in my love of gaming as it really wasn't until the 1980's that I was old enough to really appreciate the games. A few of these games can still be played today on the consoles (Asteroids, Space Invaders), and a few have even been upgraded over the years to give them a more modern feel (Space Invaders Extreme)... |
