The Atari 5200 was released in 1982 and was the successor to the Atari 2600. It was pretty much the competition for the Colecovision. This had to be the largest console i've ever seen. The space behind the cartridge slot was used to store the controllers, which were the biggest downfall of the system. The joysticks were not self centering and to be honest, just sucked. On top of it all, the controllers were very easy to break. However the games were very good. Though the Atari 5200 library wasn't that big, with an adapter, it did have the ability to play Atari 2600 games as well. Now, if I could only find an emulator that works nicely... :)
