The Bally Astrocade was released in 1977 and was only on the market until 1979 when Bally decided to exit the market. It was later picked up by a third party company who re-released it and sold it until around 1983. This was actually one of the few systems I never had when I used to collect games. When it was released in 1977, it was strictly sold though mail order under the name Bally Home Library Computer. The consoles didn't ship until 1978 and by then were renamed the Bally Professional Arcade. The Astrocade came with four programs built in, Gunfight, Checkmate, Scribbling, and a calculator. |
