Gameplay on USCF Chess was done by Teletape, Inc, a company with experience in artificial intelligence.

Due to testing and debugging, the cartridge was not actually released until 1983.

Marketing at Mattel Electronics felt this was a “must have” title to establish Intellivision as “more than just a toy”.

At the highest skill level, the CPU could literally take hours, if not days to think out its next move.

The USCF Chess cartridge is the only Mattel Electronics cartridge released with an additional 2K of onboard RAM.

USCF Chess is also included on the Triple Challenge cartridge, that also includes Checkers and Backgammon.

USCF Chess can be found on the Intellivision Lives! CD for PC, XBox, Playstation 2, and GameCube.
