The Commodore VIC-20 was Commodore's second entry into the computer world, following the PET and preceding the Commodore 64. It was released in 1980 at about $300. In 1982, the VIC-20 was the best selling computer of the year selling more than 800,000 units. It was also the first home computer to sell more than 1 million units, in the end selling more than 2.5 million units. Though the VIC-20 only had 4KB of RAM, it did have expansion cartridges available, expanding the RAM from 3KB to 64KB. Much like the Atari 2600, the VIC-20 still had a crew of loyal followers that still design games for it to this day. Games were released on both cartridge and cassette media. The VIC-20 was discontinued in 1985. |
